The Overlanders are Barney Vaughan-Knight plus a couple of smaller helpers sometimes. Barney began running vintage-style Morocco overland tours back in 1997. The ethos being; take a load of like minded travel lovers, put them in a bus and take to the road. Follow an itinerary but don't be ruled by one. Applying the same ethos he began organising adventure road trips all over the world. From the Balkans to the Baltics, from Trans-Africa to Trans-Siberian we will take you anywhere the road goes...and some places it doesn't.
We specialise in organising and running group adventure trips, getting you inside the culture of the countries we visit. We run trips for all types of groups and we mix up all the cultural sightseeing with an intoxicating blend of adventure and action for those wanting to travel off the beaten track: hiking, whitewater rafting, canoeing are just some of the activities we have available on our trips. We like to visit countries and places that are off the main tourist radar and often try out brand new trips on request. But mostly we are all about the journey. We believe the best way to see the world is overland. So come on give us a challenge. We will take you anywhere!
We have our roots back in the 1960s when Barney's mum was pioneering overland trips to India & Nepal from London. 8 weeks of awesome overlanding. This venture lasted over 10 years until she took a 17 year break from being on the road. But once an overlander, always an overlander and it all started up again in the 1990s. This time Morocco was the destination. A little closer but still quite the adventure. Barney took over in 1997 and more overland trips were brought into the mix. Barney met Lizzie in 2010 and she helped create the legendary Balkan Jam & Xtreme through the lesser known parts of Eastern Europe. Still a firm favourite. Between us we have now travelled to over 85 countries. Not all overland admittedly but all with at least a few friends in tow. Hopefully you will soon be one of them.
