Arrival in Dubrivnik Croatia. A fairy tale town on the Adriatic coast, famed for its castle like wall that surrounds the whole town.
Tip - Fly in a day early if you want more time here
A short drive inland and we are Into Bosnia and 2 nights in the Mostar region.
This town was almost completely destroyed in the 1990s war but now stands as a beautifully rebuilt reminder of the conflict. Lots of history and culture here. Also an option for a canoe ride down the river in Blagaj nearby. We'll stay in peaceful Blagaj on the banks of the river Buna just a 10 minute bus ride from Mostar. Mostar - a day to explore the wonders of this town. Watch the Icarus jumpers diving off the famous rebuilt bridge from where the town takes its name. Learn about this place's history during the war that destroyed it and then relax with a cocktail in any one of the quirky bars that adorn the cobbled streets.
Sarajevo. Bosnia's quirky capital is where east meets west and as well as having lots of history and sights for any culture vultures It also has bars aplenty for some partying Bosnia style. Great venues include the Gold Fish bowel and Kine Bosna! An old cinema dating back to the soviet times now a cool night club.
Tara canyon - the second deepest on earth. White water rafting level 3 here is a really spectacular event. One of the most beautiful rivers in Europe but icy cold. So wet suits provided as well as Raki to warm the soul. Camping at Tara '87 on the banks of the river for 2 nights. Complete with bonfire and late night bar!
Driving into Montenegro we journey through the stunning Durmitor National park with wild horses and lush green mountains all around. We'll stop off for lunch to sample some of this country's legendary cheese and other delicacies. Eventually heading to the other side of the Tara canyon we take a zip line across to our camp for the night. Not for the faint hearted so the option to drive is of course there too!
Albania - Lake Shkodra, the massive lake that straddles the two countries. We'll stay in the wonderful Lake Shkodra resort which is the ideal place to bring our Balkan extravaganza to a finale.
Lots of options here for your final day including hikes into the mountains and day trips to see villages way off the beaten track.
Finally we drive back north up the coast to Dubrovnik where it all began or fell free to stay longer and book your flights back from Podgorica in Montenegro. Much closer to the Lake Shkodra resort if you have more time to relax and take in the sun.
